Please reach us at info.finemindpsych@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
We recognize that commencing therapy can be confronting. Fortunately, psychologists are equipped to guide you through this process.
The first session is a time for your therapist to get to know you (and vice versa!). We will explain how our practice works, enquire about your background, and offer you the opportunity to raise any concerns or queries you might have.
If you are uncertain about committing to therapy, you are welcome to attend an initial session to evaluate whether you wish to proceed further.
Although there is some overlap, psychiatrists, psychologists and counsellors are different professions and study different degrees.
Psychiatrists undergo medical training and hold medical degrees, enabling them to prescribe medication.
Counsellors do not need to be registered with a professional body. They may complete a certificate, diploma or bachelor's degree in counselling.
Psychologists and clinical psychologists, undergo rigorous training of at least six years in psychology and are registered and regulated by AHPRA. Both, psychologists and clinical psychologists initially complete a 4-year undergraduate program in psychology. After completion, those aiming to follow a clinical psychology pathway, undergo a 2-year masters degree in clinical psychology with further supervision hours, while general psychologists complete either 2 years of supervised practice, or a combination of 1 year of masters and 1 year of supervised practice.
The fees for our psychology sessions are $220. This is below the National Schedule of Recommended Fees by APS ($300) for a 46 to 60 minute consultation.
If you have a valid Mental Health Care Plan, you will be entitled to a rebate of $96.65, so that you will only need to pay $123.35 out of pocket.
If you are in financial hardship, other options might be available for you. Please don't hesitate to reach out to discuss your options.
Our services uphold confidentiality as a priority, except in cases where non-disclosure could endanger you or others, or if legally mandated by a court. Further details regarding confidentiality will be provided during your initial appointment.
You are entitled to a Medicare Rebate of $96.65 for 10 sessions per calendar year if you have a valid Mental Health Care Plan (Referral) from your GP.
You do not need a referral to access therapy. But you do need a referral (Mental Health Care Plan) from your GP, if you would like to receive a Medicare Rebate.
Our sessions are 50 - 55 minutes long.
This will vary depending on your presentation. We have seen clients for as little as 6 sessions, and up to 40 sessions.
Your therapist will regularly review the therapeutic process with you.
We provide services to individuals from ages 16 and above.
Our practice primarily focuses on individual sessions. However, if it's deemed beneficial and you consent, someone may accompany you to a session. It's important to note that this differs from couples therapy, as you remain the sole client, and therapy is customized to address your specific needs.
We kindly request a 48-hour notice if you need to cancel an appointment. This allows us to offer your reserved time to others in need. Please be aware that cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice will incur a charge and won't be eligible for a Medicare rebate.
We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities as the Traditional Custodians of the land we work on. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging and recognise that their sovereignty was never ceded.
